The Definition of Personalization

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been thinking about what personalization really means. We’ve seen retailers announce in the industry press that they’ve implemented “personalization” – but we don’t think they have.

So here’s our definition for personalization:

Personalization technology enables the dynamic insertion, customization or suggestion of content in any format that is relevant to the individual user, based on the user’s implicit behavior and preferences, and explicitly given details.
